The Jamberry Phenominon

Hey bombshells! Ok, I want to share this product with you that I've become ADDICTED to. It's called Jamberry- I'm sure you've heard about it, it's been abuzz through Facebook parties you've probably been invited to once or twice (or a dozen times). They are adorable and affordable vinyl nail wraps, and they allow you to spend less time and money at the salon, and more on things like your family, your student loans, or filling your wine cabinet.

Jamberry is a unique direct-sales company, in that their product is high-quality, inexpensive, and doesn't require you to attend awkward parties at your coworker's sister's divorce-lawyer's neighbor's aunts condo. My friend sent me free samples through the mail, and sometime between applying them and ordering EVERY WRAP I COULD FEASIBLY AFFORD, I became totally addicted to these things.

Let me break it down for you- the vinyl wraps come on a sheet of 18 wraps in 9 different sizes. This gives you the ability for two full manicures, two full pedicures, and extras to mix and match with for $15. Yeah, for the price of your acrylic fill, you can have a whole month of perfect nails. The manis last 2 weeks, and the pedicures last up to 6. Also, right now, if you order 3 sheets, they will let you order a forth wrap for free. 8 manis, four months of perfect nails, $45. Not bad, no?

You may have tried other polish wraps before from brands like Sally Hanson and Essie- I am here to tell you I've tried them all- they don't even come close to how long these last, how easy they are to apply, and how Bombshell these look.

Curious? Skeptical? Obsessed with free stuff? Right now, I am sending out my own free samples of Jamberry, and I want to send some to you, your sister, and even your coworker's sister's divorce lawyer's neighbor's aunt. If you would like to try one out without the pressure to buy anything, you can pick your favorite wrap from the sample picture and fill out my groovy, super-easy Sample Request form. I will even cover the postage :)

Love always,

Weekly Routine: Salt and Olive Oil Cuticle Scrub

I have a love/hate relationship with my cuticles. I didn't actually know I had a "cuticle issue" until more recently, as I've been regularly taking care of my nails and using my Jamberry nail wraps. You cuticles are actually integral to nail health- they protect your body against infection by forming a seal between your nail and your skin. You know when you go to a salon and they cut your nails. BAD. DO NOT DO THAT. THAT IS SO VERY, VERY BAD. Your cuticles will bleed, they will get infected, and you will be a very unhappy camper. I had some absolute horror stories some girls shared with me on my Facebook site that made me squeal and cringe... here is the most nightmarish...

"Pedicure a few years ago... Nail tech said- I cut your cuticle! I cut your cuticle real good! -As my foot is bleeding so bad the lady starts running around the salon while my bloody foot in the soaking tub and she gathers her groupies to come show them what had happened. One of the other asian ladies working said... You have hep c or HIV? I was like no but you gonna give me something to take care of this or let me bleed to death!!!'So inappropriate but funny at the same time! Needless to say I haven't been back! To that salon!"

This stuff is gold, I tell ya.
Don't let that happen to you. Luckly, there are some great cuticle-disolving gels you can use to get rid of the "invisible" cuticles that ruin a mani, without putting your health at risk. I use my Sally Hanson Instant Cuticle Remover every two weeks, or whenever I change my Jamicure.

My other regular cuticle routine is a scrub I picked up from my beauty school days. It's cheap, effective, and you don't have to smell like Raspberry Sorbet or Lemon Souffle or whatever perfumed crap they put in the drugstore hand scrubs. Ew, gross, no thanks. Here is my weekly cuticle health routine:

The Salt and Olive Oil Cuticle Scrub

The beauty of this hand scrub is that you already have the ingredients you need- no crazy essential oils or turbanado sugar or anything like that. All you need is a 1:1 ratio of EVOO and Kosher Salt. I always choose Kosher Salt because the granules are thicker, rougher, and best for exfoliation.

Next, mix the two together. It's not rocket science- you don't need a food processor or a hand mixer or heat. Just mix the two, and submerge your nails and fingertips.

I would not suggest doing this with your Jamberry nails wraps on- if you don't have an airtight seal, this will act the same as your olive-oil bath you give your wraps before removing. They will end up sliding off into your salt/oil goop. However, if you do this at the end of your relationship with that perticular Jamicure, this is a great way to promote your hand health and safely remove your vinyl wraps without damage. I don't like to kill birds, but this is like maiming two really annoying Stellar Jays with one stone.

Typically, my ADD only allows me to leave my fingers in here for about five minutes max, but you can always leave them in the salt/oil bath longer. After this, I typically like to use the goop as a hand scrub (over the sink, of course.) Scrub it in there, like when you first learned to wash your hands. Sing the ABC's. Sing the ABC's backwards. Really exfoliate and massage that oil into your cuticles and nails. After you wash this gunk off, you are left with the softest hands and healthiest cuticles EVER. Seriously, try this today and thank me later. Don't forget, Cuticles are friends, not foe. Treat them nicely and your Jamicure will look fabulous and last longer every time.

 Happy Scrubbing!

Nail Biter No More!

I have been a serial nail biter as long as I can remember. I can recall gluing on crooked plastic french tips in the middle school bathroom, and the envious and embarrassed feeling I would get when girls would grab their favorite nail polish at sleepovers... and I would sit on my hands, embarrassed my my little nubs. Why couldn't I get rid of my biting habit? A lot of research will show that bitten nails are a common precursor to anxiety disorders, which are prevalent in people with ADD (me!). It wasn't until recently, right before my wedding, that I kicked this habit for good. I'm a Jamberry consultant, and when I began wearing the vinyl wraps, there was no chance of my nonchalant biting or picking to do any damage to my nails. My heart soared when I gazed upon my beautiful hands and my long nails- yippie! Finally, I wasn't hiding my hands in photos! But I did want to make sure I wouldn't just kick the habit but learn how to keep my nails healthy and strong. So, here are some great tips for you to follow along with me!

-Wear Rubber Gloves When Cleaning - I used to never take this seriously. I used to be a hair stylist- my hands could handle anything! Except they shouldn't, and those abrasive cleaners can tear nails apart six ways from sunday. Step One: Find the cutest pair of rubber gloves you can find. Step 2: Always wear them. Pledge, Windex, Lysol, whatever- Use Protection! Wear your rubbers! ;)

-Go Easy On The Water - While your Jamberry nail wraps are completely water resistant, your nails and your hands aren't- Hot water can tear your hands apart, and nails are porous and absorb water, so they need a little bit of "me" time after submerging them in water. Let them dry, and use a nice hand balm to repair the cuticle and the dried-out skin. And, you know, use those rubbers when you do dishes!

-Care For Your Cuticles - Have you ever tried cuticle oil? OMG YOU HAVEN'T? Go, run to the store, buy some now, and thank me later. I will assume anyone that has tried cuticle oil read this title and thought, "oh yeah, I am a smarty pants and I love the feeling of healthy cuticles, so I always do this religiously every single day." Cuticles are the gateway into the soul- or at least your nail beds. So treat them nice so they don't peel and make you sad. Plus, healthy cuticles promote healthy, strong nails! Jamberry makes a great cuticle oil, it smells DELICIOUS. Go buy some immediately, it will be the best $10 you spent today: http://bombshellbeauty.jamberrynails.net/product/nail-care-cuticle-oil#.U_ffA1boYTQ

-Grab Your Gloves - Is it cold out? Did you grab a hoodie? Good, grab your gloves, while your at it. The best way not to forget these babies is to keep them in your coat pockets. Cold weather can seriously dry out and deteriorate your skin and nails. This is an easily avoidable problem. You can find adorable pairs of gloves for a $1 like, anywhere between September and April. Go find some favorites and stick them everywhere- in your jackets, in your car, in your boyfriends car, and next to your dog's leash.

-Beware the Bad Polish - Guess what? I would bet my whole Jamberry collection that your nail polish contains Formaldahyde, Formadahyde resin and Toluene. These are REALLY REALLY BAD FOR YOU. Like, completely toxic. Can you imagine how bad it could be if it flaked off in a kids mouth? in your dog's mouth? In your mouth? And you are wearing it on your body! Stop that right now! If you are a smartie pants, you can go order some Jamberry Nail Wraps from me and solve that problem forever, or at the very least, purchase their Nail Lacquer that is 5 FREE (AKA none of the toxins you will find in your salon-quality polish). Visit my Jamberry site for more details.

-SPF your Mani - Still insisting on getting those gels on? Ok, that's fine, but promise me you will wear SPF on your fingers- those UV and LED lights are so dangerous, and you will seriously see a difference in your skin and your nails if you avoid them or protect against them. Use a full-spectrum sunscreen before using one of these lights at a salon, and if you're nail tech says not to, you can tell her "Sayonara" and find a salon that cares more about your body. Seriously.

-Take Your Biotin - Biotin is on my list of my FAVORITE THINGS EVER (I should really write out that list... maybe soon). There are even biotin treatments you can apply directly to your nail- even better! Do this routine consistently on a daily basis. No really, do it. Put it next to your BC pills, or your toothbrush, or your fish named Greg that you feed religiously everyday. Also, those vitamin E capsules? My grammy would always push a hole in the capsule with a pin, apply the liquid to the nail and massage in. That's awesome also; do that too.

-File, Baby, File - Keep a nail file handy wherever you go. Keep one in your car, at the office, at your boyfriends house, in the fridge- you know, all the places you frequent on a regular basis. It was SO EASY for me to pick and bite if my nails had got caught on something, and a frequent filer will keep rough edges and damage away. (I know this is TMI, but I keep one next to the toilet in my restroom to take care of any nail issues while I'm... resting)

-Protein Power! - Lots of water and a well-balenced diet is always a great start at healthy nails, but what will really make a difference is the kinds of protein you are putting in your body- lean protein like chicken and protein with Omega-3 Fatty Acids like Fish are perfect for pretty nails.

Go, fly be free with beautiful hands and healthy nails! Show off your hands and those adorable nail wraps!

(what, you aren't wearing Jamberry wraps? what is wrong with you, go order your free ones right now!)

Bombshell Always,
